We are in the throes of awards season, be it international, national or regional, we can't open a newspaper or go online without seeing an awards ceremony. Most recently It was the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards and Oscars in the same weekend, yesterday was the National Wedding Awards and then there's the UK Fashion and Beauty Awards and the Positive Awards and National Diversity Awards to name but a few. It's lovely to see so many people celebrate their success and hard work. It's important for people to win awards, it drives their business forward and boosts morale, not only on a personal level but ripples waves of pride throughout their business and their staff.
We have just celebrated International Women's Day as well, another opportunity to applaud women around the world on their remarkable achievements.
I received a note the day after the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards saying that I had brought a lot of joy and happiness to many people that night and that made me smile. For awards present an opportunity to say thank you to people, to recognise that they're doing okay and give them a pat on the back. Millions of other people don't receive an award but that doesn't make their actions any less significant. Ultimately how you go about your daily life can be the most uplifting and influential action you do without even realising it.
Every day we can inspire someone, whether it's giving a colleague some advice at work or giving your child some words of encouragement and a hug. Kindness is the key to inspire anyone, we all have it within us to bring some light on someone's day. Saying thank you to the bus driver who carried you safely to you destination, or letting someone go in front of your driving in traffic as lane merge, saying hello to the greeters in the supermarket can lift their day without you even realising it. Parents up and down the country have the most important role of all in the country, to raise considerate, thoughtful and ambitious children who will carry on when we run out of energy.
A friend of mine said recently that it's time to pass the baton on, to let the young people lead and influence. And what better role models than their parents. So a giant shout out to each and every parent who is raising the next generation. There are no training days or manuals given, parenting is a role that is incredibly personal and as long as it is done with respect there is no right or wrong way. As a mother of six, it is my greatest achievement, my proudest achievement that surpasses any accolade. Seeing my eldest son pass 10 GCSEs at the highest levels, watching my eldest daughter sail through her mock GCSEs gives me a lump in my throat.Seeing my youngest learn to read her first words makes my heart skip a beat. Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for the mums and dads doing an awesome job with their families. You are all incredible. Congratulations to you all.
