I am just waiting to complete on my new home right in the heart of Liverpool ONE and suddenly it’s all getting very real. But this isn’t the first time I’ve completely overhauled my life. I seem to have made a bit of a habit of it. I grew up in London, and then moved to Leeds to work for what was then Yorkshire TV. At the time, it felt like a huge move but it was just the beginning of a life that has never followed a straight line. I moved back to London after being made redundant, worked for ITV and freelanced for newspapers in Canary Wharf, before being made redundant again and landing a job in Liverpool to work on Brookside and Hollyoaks. Then came Cyprus. I have packed up my life more times than most and the big one was when I moved to Cyprus to start a new business and build a completely different life six years ago. It was a huge change but I’ve never been particularly frightened of starting again. I crave adventure. And now here I am doing it all over again. This time I have sold up, leaving the leafy suburbs behind and moving right into the heart of Liverpool city centre. And although I won't be there full time, I have to say I’m ridiculously excited about it, as are my kids who see the endless opportunities. Our new place is in Liverpool One in a beautiful, historical building with a majestic gated entrance and grand sweeping staircase. We're on the top floor, 6 flights of stairs up with no lift so everyone is going to have tight glutes and strong legs. The Albert Dock will literally be across the street. The Odeon is a five-minute walk away, and I’ve already booked theatre tickets for the kids knowing that they can simply walk home in ten minutes. JD gym is across the street instead of a 15 minute drive so I won't miss my spin classes with my favourite instructor. That might sound like a small thing, but to me it represents a completely different way of living. I’m used to having to drive everywhere but the car has been sold. Getting into town can feel like an expedition, particularly when it’s freezing cold which I can't stand. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve thought about going into Liverpool for a meeting and then decided I simply couldn’t face the journey. That excuse is about to disappear. I’ll be able to walk out of my front door, have a coffee, meet someone for lunch, go to a press launch and be back home within minutes. No traffic. No parking. No planning my day around getting into the city. And then there’s the food. Hundreds of lovely restaurants practically on my doorstep. The shops of Liverpool ONE minutes away. The theatre, cinema, bars, museums, waterfront and Albert Dock all within walking distance. The kids can nip out to Liverpool ONE whenever they want, without me having to become their personal taxi service and I won't have to worry about them getting a taxi home from a night out. It feels incredibly liberating. I’m ready for the energy of the city again when I return. I want to walk out of my front door and feel like I'm in the middle of energetic city life. I don’t actually think I’m someone who is meant to stay in one place forever. I like change. I like a challenge. I like reinventing myself and seeing what happens next. Each move has represented a different version of me and a different chapter of my life. And at this stage of my life I’m not looking at this move as starting over. There's going to be a lot more spontaneity and a lot more free time. There is something quite exciting about knowing that in a few weeks I will be living right in the heart of Liverpool, a city that my children have grown up in. So yes, I’m overhauling my life again. And no, I’m not leaving Cyprus either. I have my magazine here, a business I’ve built and a life on the beach I still love so it’s all about balance. I’ve never been particularly good at standing still or fitting into a box, and that’s exactly what makes life interesting. Why settle for one version of your life when you can keep evolving, changing and creating new chapters?MdThe kids can nip into Liverpool ONE whenever they want without me having to become their personal taxi service. And I won’t have to worry about them getting a taxi home from a night out. There is something incredibly exciting about being able to walk to restaurants, shops, entertainment, the waterfront and some of Liverpool’s best-known attractions without getting into a car. And at this stage of my life, I’m not looking at this move as starting over. I’m looking at it as creating a lifestyle with more spontaneity, more freedom and, hopefully, a lot more free time. There is something quite exciting about knowing that in a few weeks I will be living right in the heart of Liverpool — a city that my children have grown up in and that has played such a huge part in my own life. Liverpool and Cyprus: the best of both worldsSo yes, I’m overhauling my life again. And no, I’m not leaving Cyprus either. I have my magazine here, a business I’ve built and a life on the beach that I still absolutely love. For me, it’s all about balance. I can have Liverpool city centre living when I’m in the UK and still have my life in Cyprus when I’m there. Why should I have to choose? I’ve never been particularly good at standing still or fitting into a box, and that’s exactly what makes life interesting. Why settle for one version of your life when you can keep evolving, changing and creating new chapters? So here I go again. A new home. A new lifestyle. A new chapter in Liverpool. And, knowing me, probably another reinvention somewhere down the line.
